The Boies Schiller Flexner attorney who represented Col. Alexander Vindman during impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump is joining the law firm of Jenner & Block, the Chicago-based firm confirmed to Business Insider.
David Pressman served as United States Ambassador to the United Nations for Special Political Affairs between 2014 and 2017, and is a human rights lawyer with close ties to actor George Clooney.
In 2008, he co-founded the Not on Our Watch Project, a humanitarian aid organization co-founded by Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, and Jerry Weintraub.
He is also a former aide to US Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright.
In an interview, Pressman said he was drawn to Jenner & Block after a series of conversations with the firm's co-managing partners which signaled their value of public interest work.
"I think that the cultural significance they place on public service and community engagement and incorporating that perspective in the practice of law, is inspiring to me and consistent with my values," he said.
"It was an opportunity I didn't want to pass up."
A Boies Schiller spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
According to an archived version of Pressman's biography at Boies Schiller, his practice focuses on complex international disputes and investigations, transnational and national security related litigation, and high-stakes crisis management.
He represents clients seeking to resolve disputes with foreign governments or mitigate risks related to international trade, sanctions, corruption, and investigations.
Some of his most significant work in government service includes acting as senior U.S. negotiator on international disputes. This includes negotiations with China resulting in multilateral sanctions in response to nuclear activities on the Korean Peninsula.
"Ambassador Pressman spent years negotiating with the Russians and Chinese on some of the toughest international peace and security issues of our time," said Jenner co-managing partner Katya Jestin.
"He brings a depth of experience and perspective that is global, unique, and hugely valuable to our clients as they navigate risks and threats at home and abroad."
The addition at Jenner comes after dozens of other partners have departed Boies Schiller over the past six months and the firm has initiated a firm-wide restructuring. As part of this, the firm is also bringing in new hires, and just added two senior officials from the Justice Department.
Jenner itself has not been immune to turnover this year, either, seeing litigator Craig Martin join Willkie Farr with a team of six partners in March.
At the same time, it has also added to its ranks, hiring other attorneys from Boies Schiller earlier this year.
In joining Jenner, Pressman will reunite with colleagues Lee Wolosky, another former ambassador under President Obama, and partner Dawn Smalls.
Both are overseeing Deutsche Bank as part of an independent monitorship resulting from a settlement the bank reached over regulatory investigations.
