Some Facebook users have reported hearing a chirping sound as they're scrolling through the mobile app, and now the company has weighed in.
"Hearing a chirping noise while scrolling through your Facebook Feed on your iPhone? It's not you, it's us! And it's an unfortunate technical error that we're in the process of fixing," Meta's director of communications, Andy Stone, said in a tweet on Tuesday.
It's not clear what technical error caused the issue, but the good news is you can disable sounds to turn off the chirping.
In the Facebook app, go to Settings & Privacy, choose Settings, go to Media, and toggle off Sounds under In-App Sounds.
Irritating as it may be, the chirping noise seems to be one of the more harmless glitches in Facebook's history.
Last year, an update to the Facebook app resulted in friend requests being sent to profiles that users were looking at, exposing lurkers in an all-around awkward situation.
In 2022, a software bug ended up amplifying misinformation on Facebook instead of downranking it, according to an internal report viewed by The Verge.
