School is expensive enough. Thankfully, Amazon is trying to help students and others in their age group cut costs with Prime for Young Adults, an affordable tier designed for users aged 18 to 24 or students. It even offers a full 6-month free trial (rather than the typical 30-day free trial for regular users).
After the six months are up, service renews at half the cost of a regular Prime membership: only $7.50 a month.
New subscribers to Amazon Prime Student can enjoy a six-month free trial and then Amazon Prime at 50% off the regular subscription price at the end of the trial.
Formerly known as Prime Student, the subscription no longer strictly requires a .edu email to qualify. Keep reading to learn how to sign up — and don't forget to follow our Prime Day coverage for the season's best deals.
How to sign up for Amazon Prime for Young Adults
Amazon Prime for Young Adults requires age verification or student status to qualify for the discounted rate and six-month trial. For age verification, you'll be asked to submit proof of identity, such as a passport, driver's license, or ID card.
For student verification, you can choose one of the following to qualify:
- Completed sign-up form
- Use of your .edu email for registration
- Proof of enrollment, such as a student ID or official acceptance letter
The rebrand of Prime Student opens up the service for many more users. You no longer need to be enrolled in an accredited institution to qualify — students over the age of 24 can also take advantage of the discount.
How much does Amazon Prime for Young Adults cost?
Amazon Prime for Young Adults costs $7.49 a month after a free six-month trial. That's half the monthly cost of a standard Prime membership ($15/month).
Qualifying existing Prime members can also switch to the cheaper plan — they'll just receive a refund for the remaining months left on their current Prime subscription.
We consider a standard Amazon Prime subscription an excellent deal, but the discounted rate and benefits for Amazon Prime Students make it even more enticing.
