When you think of the Great White North, mattresses probably don't come to mind. Since its launch in 2017, Silk & Snow has tried to change that with affordable beds fully made and manufactured in Canada. The company started with an all-foam mattress and has since expanded to offer more, including bed frames, organic mattresses, and even a couch.
The Silk & Snow Hybrid is in the middle of the company's mattress offerings. It offers better support than the budget-friendly all-foam line and costs less than its organic beds. It's reasonably priced for a mattress with zoned pocket coils that supply targeted support where you need it most. The cooling cover fabric and gel-infused memory foam lend excellent temperature regulation to the Hybrid. It's offered in two firmness options: a medium-firm for back and stomach sleepers and the plush for side sleepers, which is the comfort level I tested.
After sleeping on the Silk & Snow Hybrid for a month and putting it through several objective tests — comparing it to the 100+ models I've tried for our best mattress guide — the plush is a great competitively priced option for side sleepers seeking pressure relief without overheating. Back and stomach sleepers will want to consider the medium-firm version. Below, I'll cover what sets it apart, who should consider buying it, and what alternatives you might want instead.

Construction
The Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress combines CertiPUR-US-certified foams with zoned-support pocket coils to supply supportive pressure relief. All the materials are Canadian-sourced. The cover is made with an antimicrobial and proprietary cooling fabric to dissipate heat and wick away moisture. The top three foam layers consist of a plush 1-inch quilted memory foam layer, a 2-inch high-density cooling gel-infused memory foam for deep pressure point relief, and a 2-inch high-density transitional foam.
Below the foam is the zoned-support pocket coil base with a firmer middle zone for proper spinal alignment. The coils are made of Canadian steel. An extra-firm foam perimeter surrounds the coils to prevent sagging.
The Silk & Snow Hybrid is available in six standard sizes, ranging from twin to California King, and two firmnesses: Medium-Firm and Plush. I tested a queen with the Plush firmness, which costs $300 more than the Medium-Firm but also has two extra inches of plush foam for an overall thickness of 14 inches.
Our review of the Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress
Setup
The Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress is delivered to your door in a mini fridge-sized box. At 110 pounds, it's hefty, so I suggest getting help removing the packaging and putting it on your bed frame. Notwithstanding the weight, the unboxing process is simple and quick. I just needed five minutes to remove the mattress from the box and the plastic it was vacuum-sealed in.
Once free from the packaging, the Silk & Snow Hybrid quickly expanded to nearly full size. I noticed a mild odor initially, common with beds featuring foam, though the smell was gone a few hours later when I went to bed. Unfortunately, Silk & Snow doesn't offer in-home setup ("white-glove delivery"). The bed does have handles, which makes it easier to adjust once on the bed.
Comfort
Comfort preferences vary depending on your sleep position and body type. I'm a heavier fella with an athletic build, 6 feet and 225 pounds, if you simply must know. My favorite position is on my side, but I can sleep in any position. As with most side sleepers, I like my mattresses on the softer side, and the Silk & Snow Plush Hybrid delivered with a softer-than-average feel (4 out of 10).
I tended to side sleep on the Silk & Snow and loved it. The zoned support helped keep my spine aligned while relieving pressure points. I didn't wake with noticeable soreness during the month I slept on the Plush Hybrid. However, my sleep quality scores didn't back up my comfort. As measured by my Garmin watch, I have an average sleep score of 60 out of 100. On the Silk & Snow, my average score was 59. I also noticed that I had trouble falling and staying asleep, possibly due to life circumstances.
Back and stomach sleepers and heavier side sleepers might want to consider the Medium-Firm option, as I wasn't particularly comfortable when I tried to sleep on my stomach or back because I felt like I sank in too much, leaving my spine misaligned. The Plush is mainly a side-sleeper mattress.
Heat dissipation
The Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress did an outstanding job of staying cool. I used a laser thermometer to measure the surface temperature before lying down, right after getting up, and two minutes after.
Of the mattresses I've tested, the average temperature when I get up is 89.5 degrees Fahrenheit. Yet, the Silk & Snow was much cooler at 87 degrees. However, it only dipped 10 degrees in the following two minutes, while most mattresses decrease by 12 degrees. While this is mildly concerning, it's arguably more important that a mattress remain cool while you're on it, and this is where the Plush Hybrid excels. Also, subjectively, I felt comfortable on it, even though I tend to overheat on most mattresses. It's a superb bed for hot sleepers.
Edge support
When lying or sitting on the side of a mattress, you want to feel comfortable. Good edge support helps with this and makes getting into and out of bed easier. The Silk & Snow Plush Hybrid's edge support is better than average, thanks to the firm border foam.
To test edge support, I sit on the side of the bed and measure how much it sags. On average, mattresses compact 3 to 4 inches, and this bed was 3.5 inches. I also lie on the side and roll until I fall off. If my body gets beyond a 45-degree angle with the bed, then the mattress has good edge support. I could get well beyond that with the Plush Hybrid. Plus, I felt comfortable on the edge, not like I would fall off at all.
Taking these test results together, the Silk & Snow Plush Hybrid is a good choice for those who value edge support.
Motion isolation
I put my phone's vibrometer app on one side of a mattress and drop a 15-pound bowling ball on the other side to measure motion isolation. This is designed to mimic the vibrations you might feel as your sleep partner flops around in the night.
The Silk & Snow registered a 6.2 on the vibrometer, which is better than all but a handful of the mattresses I've tested. The pocket coils seem to be doing their job. When my cat jumped on the bed at night, I couldn't feel her until she put her nose on my nose. Unfortunately, no amount of motion isolation can help with that.
The impressive motion isolation and the above-average edge support make the Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress an excellent choice for couples.
Trial period and warranty
Silk & Snow's 365-night sleep trial is among the longest I've seen. You're encouraged to sleep on the mattress for at least 30 nights. If you find it isn't right for you, you can return it for a full refund. Per the return policy, the bed must be in donatable condition, free of stains, tears, and other soiling/odors. This is because the company donates 95% of its returned mattresses to people in need. The other 5% are recycled. You can test the Silk & Snow beds in 18 showrooms if you live in or near Canada. Unfortunately, they aren't in showrooms outside Canada.
Silk & Snow mattresses are backed by a 15-year warranty. This covers flaws in workmanship and permanent indentations over 2 inches deep. Repairs or replacements are free in the first 10 years of the warranty. Afterward, you're on the hook for 75% of the original purchase price. Cons to consider
As a side sleeper who enjoys soft beds, I don't like that the Plush Silk & Snow Hybrid costs $300 more than the Medium-Firm version. I don't think I should have to pay more to be comfortable. Back and stomach sleepers should probably stick with the Medium-Firm as the Plush was much too soft for those sleep positions.
Silk & Snow doesn't offer in-home setup, which is unfortunate because the Plush Hybrid weighs 110 pounds for the queen. You may want to enlist the help of friends and family to unbox your new bed.
What are your alternatives?
I chose to test the Plush Hybrid because it's the most affordable Silk & Snow mattress for side sleepers. However, the company has an all-foam mattress for under $600 for a queen. While we haven't tested it yet, Silk & Snow offers the bed in Firm (geared toward back and stomach sleepers) and Medium-Firm (ideal for back and some side sleepers) for $75 more.
Silk & Snow's priciest option is its Organic Mattress, which swaps memory foam for all-natural, GOLS-certified latex. The queen runs $850 for Firm, $1,050 for Medium-Firm, and $1,650 for Plush. The increased prices account for thicker slabs of latex. I haven't tested this bed yet, but I love latex because it's incredibly responsive, quickly adjusting to your body's contours.
At a similar price point, I also recommend the DreamCloud Premier. It has a medium firmness that will accommodate most sleepers. It dissipates heat well and is a great option for couples. Plus, it's backed by a lifetime warranty, and in-home setup (aka, white-glove delivery) is available for $199. Yet, the Premier lacks Silk & Snow's zoned support. The bottom line
I recommend the Silk & Snow Hybrid Plush mattress to side sleepers who want pressure relief and good heat dissipation. Thanks to its superior edge support and motion isolation, it's also a terrific solution for couples. For its $1,000 price, you get a long trial period and warranty. The Plush version is best for side sleepers who prefer a softer feel, but the $850 Medium-Firm will better serve stomach and back sleepers.
