These $98 Everlane pants get more compliments from strangers than anything else I own

Of all my clothes, it's my most casual closet item that garners the most "where'd you get those?" responses. If I could give a grade in this Everlane Utility Barrel Pant review, I'd give it an A+. Out of all the products I've tested for our Everlane reviews, this is the one pair of pants I keep coming back to.

The Utility Barrel Pant is a uniquely successful take on a difficult style: The slouchy chic pant. These casual but trend-forward pants are simultaneously loose but cinched at the waist, and the cropped length also has a leg-lengthening effect.

They're made of a lightweight cotton twill — there's a pleasant weight to them, which creates a flattering structured fall around the body, while also keeping them breathable enough to wear for a breezy summer day. This also makes them ideal for transitional seasons like fall and spring.

One thing we look for in our assessment of anything — especially in this Everlane Utility Barrel Pant review — is inclusive sizing. Currently, these come in Regular or Tall, sizes 00-16, and in 11 colorways: Black, Bone, Dark Moss, Rosewood,  Toasted Coconut, Navy, and black or brown pinstripes. Plus, they also have three shades of denim. I own two pairs — Bone, and a now-retired Light Blue — in two different sizes that I fluctuate between.

In general, I'd recommend going with your standard size in Everlane's Utility Barrel Pant rather than sizing down, especially if you want them to fit as they do on the model. While they stretch slightly with wear, it's not enough if they're slightly too tight upon the first wear.

In terms of versatility, they're the best of both worlds. I can throw them on for errands because they're comfortable, and I wear them to dinner afterward because they're flattering and easy to style. Just like they continue to be a staple of Everlane's offerings, they remain a staple of mine.
