Microsoft has asked US employees to work from home "until further notice" amid the coronavirus crisis, the company confirmed on Monday.
The guidance was effective March 23, the company said. Microsoft previously asked employees in the Seattle and San Francisco Bay areas to work remotely through April 7.
Letty Cherry, Microsoft's head of global employee, leader and culture communications, recently told Business Insider the company is hopeful things will go back to normal soon, but that it's preparing for the long haul.
"We're all open to the fact that we may be at work in a month, or we may be working from home for many, many months," she said. "[It's given us a] slight hope to see what's happening in China, to see people are starting to heal and rebound from COVID-19."
Amazon, meanwhile, on April 1 extended its remote work guidance for corporate employees through April 24. Washington Gov. Jay Inslee has extended the state's stay-home order until May 4.
