The Morris + King Company, co-principled by Andy Morris and Judith R. King who is the lead principal and co-owner, is a leading public relations firm in the Flatiron District. They work with a range of clients, including Susan G. Komen For The Cure, DBG (Digital Broadcasting Group), Paul Labrecque Salon and Spa, Classic Media, amFAR, Dachis Group, Conduit, IDG, VNSNY (Visiting Nurse Service of New York), etc.

We recently went to check out their chic Fifth Avenue office space.

Judith R. King is the mastermind behind the office. She designed the entire space and still considers it a work in progress. She is constantly adding new touches to it. The central theme is, "a glowing ice cube with hidden surprises" and as ambitious as that sounds, the office achieves it.

The main colors are yellow and blue (the glow and the ice) and they run throughout the office and play nicely off the wide open windows that allow lots of natural light into the space.

Beyond the design, the office looks more like an art gallery than a workplace. The walls are lined with fine art, some commissioned for the space by artist Arthur Rodrigues. Even the furniture is artsy. Some pieces are antiques, like first class lounge seats from Air France. Others are more modern, including work by Lawson Fennig.

In terms of spending so much time on design, Judith R. King explains: "I want people to be happy and comfortable in the space, whether they are working or visiting. It should be somewhere you enjoy being." With regards to the money involved, "Many of the furniture and art pieces here are at the investment level and we see them as both art and company assets that can have a real return on value."

The bottom line is the office is spectacular.

In the center of the main room is a table with magazines and this impressive sculpture.

The blue gymnast, or Nimble Athlete, is one of Judith R. King's favorite pieces and displays the strength and finesse she thinks is necessary for success in her industry.

High ceilings and large windows create spacious offices.

And personal touches are encouraged, as long as they match the colors.

Almost every employee seems to have a significant piece of art somewhere near them.

Jocelyn Johnson, an Account Supervisor, is hard at work. She works mostly with Tech clients, like Unruly and Groundlink, and says she enjoys. "The colorful environment, people, and visual aesthetic."

Even the Panelite cubicle walls have been custom colored to match the blue hue British artist David Hockney has used in many of his pieces.

The office kitchen area is neat and tidy. The yellow pipe is affectionately called "the stripper pole."

This room is just for relaxation, no work allowed.

It has snacks and these cool cereal dispensers.

And some interesting art work of course. Remember Jocelyn, this is her favorite piece in the office.

The smaller window in this room still makes the most of natural light.

But that doesn't mean it isn't equipped with some fine art pieces.

With all the blue and the sometimes underwater feeling of the office, it is fitting that there are some fish present.

The lounge area is called the Rumpus Room.

It features these antique chairs from the cruise ship the SS Stella Solaris.

In the lounge there are two anime sculptures. The provocative images are themed around a hard nosed Public Relations professional. Those are news and industry papers around the toilet.

And the accompanying one includes a fully clothed, strong PR professional lady.

Everything in the office is carefully placed with an eye to balance and symmetry.

Himself an art collectors, Andy has these pictures of Gilligan, made by Josh Harris, the Internet pioneer, artist, and one of his friends and clients.

Judith R. King selects almost everything in the office, including this German plate she purchased for Andy. It translates to "I like bland things" though nothing could be farther from the truth in this office.

She even added a signed note to him on it.

The company rents part of its office as space for some friends. You can see them at work.

As we wait for the elevator we see Chi Zhao hard at work. She likes the office because it is different and said the color scheme, "makes you feel comfortable, but gives you energy."
