People who rely on Zoom calls for remote school and work were unable to access the videoconferencing app Monday as it experienced widespread outages.

Thousands of users reported that they were unable to sign in to Zoom or join video calls, according to Down Detector. The problems started appearing shortly after 8 a.m. EDT.

A Zoom spokesperson confirmed in a statement to Business Insider that it received users' reports of an outage Monday morning. After investigating, the spokesperson said the issue was resolved as of 1:30 p.m.

"We have resolved an issue that caused some users to be unable to start and join Zoom Meetings and Webinars or manage aspects of their account on the Zoom website. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience," the spokesperson said.

The outages were a disruption for people who rely on Zoom to do their jobs remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic, including teachers at schools that have moved to remote learning.
